To mark Michael Kors’ 30th year in the fashion business (yes, he started young -- at 19, in fact), the American designer who made sportswear luxurious took the celebration to a new level, inviting celebrities from the likes of Emma Roberts to Anna Wintour to be part of his Fall 2011 presentation. And, the much-anticipated collection has now made its way to Pavilion KL’s racks for the city’s fashion savvy.
The American designer celebrated his anniversary by presenting an elegant collection of reminiscent of the 1970s with a modern minimalist edge.
The range offers sometimes oversized, gender-neutral outwear, such as slouchy tops, oversized cardigans, pantsuits, and fluid trousers for the KL store racks. The line also carries a variety of details for autumn, including elements like fur, shearling, yarn and sequins. Nearly every look in the show was monochrome though, creating the long, uninterrupted line Michael Kors favours (and why KL stylites love him).
Despite the varied textures, the operative word for this collection is still “sleek”, and the modern theme is carried through the accessories from cross-body messenger bags to tailored heels.
“I think I have brought a pragmatic glamour to the world; [I've shown] that you can be sexy but comfortable, you can be glamorous but still have an ease to how you get dressed,” said Kors to journalists at the show where this collection was presented, of what his clothes have meant to the fashion world. This fall collection perfectly continues those themes.
The first freestanding Michael Kors store opened in Malaysia at Pavilion KL in August of this year. The 325-square-metre duplex is home to the full range of the designer's clothes and accessories, opening at the same time that the brand launched its first freestanding store in Singapore. Both outlets are part of the company's push into Asia that start in 2006, when the brand opened in Korea and announced its plans to open 50 retail outlets in greater China.
The Michael Kors Fall 2011 Collection is now available at Michael Kors level 2 and 3, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, 168 Jalan Bukit Bintang, +603 2145 8855
